Six Artists | Seven Days

Sofitel Melbourne On Collins proudly presented Six Artists | Seven Days, an evocative exhibition presented by Defiance Gallery in support of the Australian Wildlife Conservancy. Born from a week-long residency at Newhaven Wildlife Sanctuary, the exhibition brought together six Australian artists whose works explored the vast desert landscape while supporting vital conservation efforts at Newhaven.

Artists Sophie Cape, Nicolette Eisdell, Pamela Honeyfield, Michelle Hungerford, Charmaine Pike and Ana Pollak immersed themselves in the shifting light, textures and rhythms of the sanctuary. Their experiences were translated through expressive and contemplative works, where bold gestures met delicate marks, vibrant palettes echoed the ochres and charcoals of the landscape, and compositions captured both its raw intensity and quiet poetry.

Set within one of Australia’s largest private conservation areas, Six Artists | Seven Days celebrated the beauty and fragility of the desert while drawing attention to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy’s work protecting threatened species and restoring habitat at Newhaven.

Following its exhibition at Defiance Gallery in Sydney, Six Artists | Seven Days arrived at Sofitel Melbourne On Collins with additional works, offering Melbourne audiences a new perspective on the project. The exhibition formed part of the fifth and final artist residency at Newhaven, an initiative created with the ambition of raising $1 million in support of the Australian Wildlife Conservancy.

Through the collaboration, Sofitel Melbourne On Collins continued its commitment as a Hotel for the Arts, creating a platform where contemporary Australian art, conservation and connection to landscape could come together.
