Spring Salon Exhibition 2023

As Hotel for the Arts, Sofitel Melbourne On Collins together with Global Art Projects, welcomes The Torch, a First Nations-led cultural arts organisation making waves in both the arts and justice worlds for over a decade. Working with First Nations people who are incarcerated around Victoria, The Torch centres the role of art, culture and cultural identity in supporting participants to find new pathways beyond the criminal justice system. Mirroring Robby Wirramanda’s exploration of the power of fire and wind to transform landscapes leading to resilience and growth, this exhibition allows one to embark on a journey through the heart and soul of the organisation, a journey fuelled by the unwavering belief in the power of cultural art to transform lives.

Every artwork created through The Torch program is part of each participant’s cultural and personal journey, reflecting the stories they choose to share in their own voices and their own styles.

Exhibition runs from 3 October 2023 – 2 February 2024 at Sofitel Melbourne On Collins
