Our Commitment in Action
Waste Reduction & Recycling
We have eliminated 60 single-use plastic items across the hotel and introduced compostable and biodegradable alternatives from brands like BioPak and Biogone. We actively recycle Nespresso pods, glass, e-waste, used cooking oil, textiles, and food waste with a dedicated waste measurement system called “BinTracker” to monitor and measure our waste and recycling performance.
Energy & Resource Efficiency
Since January 2024, 100% of our electricity has been sourced from renewable energy. Our current provider SmartestEnergy, ensures all areas of the hotel are powered exclusively by clean, renewable sources. We’ve replaced single-use toiletries with refillable Balmain amenities, installed an in-house MODA filtered water bottling system, adopted digital platforms for reporting, ordering and guest services to significantly reduce paper use.
Sustainable Food & Beverage
We champion local and Indigenous producers, featuring partners like St David’s Dairy, Seven Seasons Gin, and Loco for Cocoa. Our food waste efforts include AI tracking, buffet redesign and guest education. Takeaway water is served in aluminum bottles from Wallaby Water, supporting wildlife conservation.

Sofitel Melbourne On Collins is certified Green Globe, 5 Star Quality Tourism Accredited Business, EcoStar, and a Sustainable Tourism Accredited Business. Our sustainability journey is ongoing and we are dedicated to innovation, community engagement and responsible luxury.
